And sometimes bigger isn't better. Most of the LZs in Taiwan can handle S-70C-1/1A/6, UH-1H and UH-60M, but might not able to handle much bigger CH-47SD. And since EC-225 is between the size of UH-1H and CH-47SD, Taiwan has to spend time and effort to re-certify those LZ and all those villages' crisis emergency LZs and backup LZs with the 3 EC-225 to test them to make sure, or might even has to completely rebuild all of the LZs----if ROCAF does intend to replace rest of the 17 S-70C-1/1A/6 with EC-225 in the future----since those crisis emergency LZs for villages were originally rated to handle UH-1H only, and when S-70C-1/1A/6 entered ROCAF C-SAR service, those LZ weren't rebuilt to handle them, but let it slide with smaller margin of safety on those LZ.

Now with much bigger EC-225, we might start to hear about how EC-225 weren't send out on rescue missions because the nearest village's LZ up on the mountain can't handle EC-225 size SAR helo---because Taiwan government lacks the foresight or didn't foreseen the need to rebuild/expand existing LZ helo pad site or select new emergency field LZ site to handle the bigger size and weight of EC-225 SAR helo.....

And yes, that's one of the reasons Taiwan never did bother to ask to use Starlight unit's Super Puma helicopters in Taiwan for any sort of rescue or resupply missions, even when Taiwan can surely use the extra help on extra helicopters and pilots/crews in those time from Starlight units.....

Some of the bad views that I have heard on the EC225 wasn't due to the chopper itself, but the attitude of Eurocopter France, with expensive parts which were being supplied in a slow manner...

Looks like EC-225's engines needs to have engine inspections every 50 hours and needed to taken it out, and the engine performance in a humid and hotter environment in southern France(or even Taiwan) would reduce payload performance on EC-225 and won't outperform S-92 that much. Neither EC-225 or S-92 has anti-icing ability.

De-icing equipment was non-exist when the EC225 first went to sale, and became an option to its sales catalog. In the S-92 it is a standard equipment (although unreliable).

And the optional de-icing equipment on EC225 got some trouble before...

It means the engines has to get inspections at 50 hours in the real world, not the 75 hours recommended by the factory, in order for the engine not to get degrade performance passing 50 hours usage or shorten the engine's life. It's the differences of real world use/operation and factory paper/handbook recommendation.... It's kind of like cars that the factory recommendation of 5000 miles or 8000 miles oil change, but most people would rather do a periodic 3000 miles oil change in order not to get degrade mpg and suffer performances after oil gets dirty when it reach 3000 miles.....

But like Airbus, Eurocopter's products likes to have computers in control, and pilots/crews only to have secondary control. We all remember the several Airbus accidents resulted in the on board computers overridden human control and caused in accidents and death that the pilots should able to correctly perform and save everyone on board, except the computers on board disagree and wouldn't allow the human control....

Must be the Sky Net at work....
